  • In the Works is our ongoing series of virtual new play readings. We receive submissions from playwrights, schedule readings of their plays, and cast the readings using our In The Works actor database. Each reading is followed by a facilitated discussion and feedback process run by members of the Amalgamation team. We believe that if someone wants to create theatre, they should get to do it. In the Works is one of the ways we prioritize playwrights and emerging artists and connect with creatives as a company.

That being said, Amalgamation is not always the right company to support particular new works, so we read and review every play submitted before moving forward to ensure that we have the resources and people to produce each reading and that each reading will not cause harm to our community.

In The Works is low time commitment, entirely free (no submission or participation fee for playwrights), and fully virtual. It supports our ongoing initiative for accessibility in the arts.

A few important notes:

All administrative positions at Amalgamation Theatre Collective are unpaid, volunteer roles at this time. There are no physical office locations, and most work is conducted virtually, with opportunity for in-person support of productions based on location. While candidates from any location should feel encouraged to apply, please note we currently schedule all meetings in Eastern time. In-person participation of productions and/or company initiatives will not be mandatory at any time.

We recognize that not everyone interested in applying for a role will meet all of the qualifications listed. We especially recognize that members of marginalized communities are less likely to apply for roles where they do not meet 100% of the qualifications. At Amalgamation, we value passion, creativity, and a strong work ethic. We are thrilled to review and consider any applicant who possesses these qualities, even if their experience does not match the qualifications. With this in mind, please apply for any role that you would truly love to fill.

Our priority deadline for all roles is July 12th, 2026 at 11:59pm ET.  Applications received after this deadline will be accepted as long as the google form remains open to responses, but cannot be guaranteed equal consideration.
