In The Works - A Virtual Play Reading Series

As part of our initiative to support new work, Amalgamation Theatre Collective is excited to launch In The Works -a virtual play reading series! This opportunity is available for any and all plays that are still in process - fully published and produced plays will not be considered. The first readings will take place in May 2025; this will be an ongoing series with more readings as our production schedule allows.

This continuous series aims to provide playwrights with the chance to hear their plays aloud, to receive feedback on their work in a constructive environment, and to share a space with actors and network while developing new work! Since these readings take place virtually, this opportunity is available to playwrights regardless of location.

This call for submissions is for virtual readings only. In-person readings and full productions are not available at this time, and we will make a separate call for plays when those opportunities arise. Participating in this series does not preclude you from having your play produced by us in a different format later on. If you would like to be notified when those opportunities arise, please fill out our Future Collaborators Form

There are currently two options available to playwrights (details below). In order to submit please fill out the In The Works Playwright Submission Form

Options:

1) A closed zoom reading with you (the playwright), actors, and Amalgamation team members. This would provide you with an opportunity to hear your work out loud. For this opportunity, there would be no director, and we would obtain actors for you. There is usually no rehearsal with this option, but there is a meeting with the cast and playwright to discuss the world of the play.

2) A zoom reading with an audience. We would obtain actors for you and facilitate rehearsals, as well as publicize your reading online. Audience members would be welcome to watch the final performance and provide feedback on your play.

Please note: While our hope is to eventually produce all plays submitted to us, Amalgamation reserves the right to deny plays that oppose our mission and values.
