Creative Team Positions
(& Medea) Creative Team Applications
Application Form: https://forms.gle/QHeyLauTuQkKZ4MW7
For our upcoming production of (& Medea), conceived by Arlo Howe and developed and written by Jess Shoemaker, we are seeking:
Assistant Director - We are looking for an AD that is collaborative, communicative, and has great attention to detail. Our AD should feel comfortable occasionally running rehearsal time with prior notice.
Production Stage Manager - We are looking for an SM that has experience creating rehearsal reports, daily calls, contact sheets, and other important paperwork. Our SM should first and foremost be an excellent communicator, time manager, and a problem solver; preferably CPR and First Aid certified, although not required to apply.
Assistant Stage Manager - We are looking for an ASM who has some knowledge of stage management, but prior experience is not necessary. Our ASM will be the support to our Production Stage Manager throughout the rehearsal process and full show run.
Lighting Designer - We are looking for an innovative lighting designer to join our team. Our venue does not have a traditional lighting set up, so use of practicals and nontraditional lighting methods will be necessary for this production.
Scenic Designer - We are looking for an inventive scenic designer to join our team. Our venue functions similarly to a black box space and we are looking to have our sets represented more abstractly. This production will also feature water in contained spaces. This role will work closely with the Props Designer.
Props Designer - We are seeking a creative and collaborative props designer to join our team. This role will work closely with the Scenic Designer throughout the process. This role will require adaptability as several props in this production will likely be multi-use and the props list is still evolving.
Costume Designer - We are seeking an imaginative and resourceful costume designer to join our team. As this is a reimagined piece, we are not looking for period accurate costumes. Most of the costumes will be supplied by actors from their own wardrobes, and the costume designer will use their creative eye to create the overall vision.
Intimacy Coordinator - We are looking for a certified intimacy coordinator to choreograph the staging of five kisses (all between Medea and Jason) and a sex scene which takes place fully clothed and in a blackout.
Show Description: She lived a life before the tragedy. It's time we hear about it. In a timeless and poetic retelling of Euripides’ infamous play, a Greek chorus guides us through the details of Medea’s life and love. In this version, we get to know her for who she was before she committed an act that would become the defining moment of her narrative forever.
Accompanied by the sounds and movements of water, we set out to reconstruct the image of a woman history has deemed purely a villain. We set out to offer her the things she was never truly given: context, history, and her love story.
Content Notices: Death, traumatic loss of a pregnancy, cursing, intimacy (sex scene performed in a blackout and kissing), grief, discussions of war
Important Information: Rehearsals are slated to begin the week of October 5th of 2025 with performances the weekend of November 21-23. We will be rehearsing Wednesday evenings, Saturday mornings, and every other Friday. Our venue for the entire process is The Deep End Studios located at 1313 S 33rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19146.
Full creative team production meetings will likely take place every week at an agreed upon time for roughly one hour.
